Yellow-Streaked Lories


Yellow-Streaked Lory Chalcopsitta sintillata sintillata 12" (30cm), A very beautiful green-backed, green-winged lory. Nape, ear coverts and beak black, as is the peri-orbital skin (in adults); lored, thighs and undertail, underwings and forehead (in adults) red; variable red flecking on throat area; yellow band across underside of flight feathers; front entirely green, heavily streaked with golden yellow; iris brown; characteristic spiky "ruff" formed by the neck feathers.
Distinguishing features The yellow streaking of the breast distinguished the nominate subspecies from the Red-Streaked Lory (C.s. rubrifrons), which has orange-red streaking, and the Green-streaked Lory (C.s. chloroptera) which has green streaking and green underwings. Considered currently safe in numbers, it has a large natural range.
