Buru Red Lories
Buru Red Lory E.b.cyanothus 10" (25cm), is smaller than the nominate bird at 25 cm (10 in) long and is a darker red, with maroon wings and back. It is a forest- and mangrove-dweller from the island of Buru where, until recently, it was said to be abundant. Now, as the result of recent survey work, it is known to be declining.
The Buru Red Lory is a hardy, easy bird which breeds well and makes an excellent foster parent. Young appear to have little or no blue ear coverts.
